Present Over Perfect – Day 35 & 36

Hi friends! I realized late this evening my distribution message for yesterday’s post never went out. I actually scheduled this to be sent as normal, but there must have been a glitch in the system.

You can read Day 35 HERE if you missed it.

Today’s reading begins on page 186, Happy Medium.

Hi, I’m Starr and if I wrote this chapter it would be titled Happy Large or even Happy Xtra Large. Anybody with me??

I’m coming to love my own body and this baby belly pooch that doesn’t want to sink back in after baby #3. It is part of me.

Don’t get me wrong – this doesn’t give me an excuse to live an unhealthy life and not take care of the temple God has given. No. Not at all.

But it does give me permission to not constantly stress over where I am currently and to be OK looking in the mirror and not see airbrushed skinny looking back at me.

I can choose to be OK when my sister and her bff post photos on Facebook of me on the beach in a bathing suit. Gosh I wish they didn’t, but y’all. It’s real life.

This is the beat of my heart: to experience grace and nourishment, and to offer it, one in each hand, to every person I meet – grace and nourishment. You can rest. You don’t have to starve.

In fact, you can enjoy a doughnut every now and then. 🙂

I want to offer grace and give grace to myself.

I want to offer nourishment and make sure I get some too.

I want to offer encouragement – without starving my own family and my own soul.

Friends – let’s all make sure being present over perfect includes taking care of our own bodies too. You are loved just as you are – right now, whatever size you are.

  1. Yep, this is a struggle! I was skinny all my life until I hit my 30’s – we owned and ran a restaurant where my mother in law cooked such wonderful food and then life became too busy for me to get exercise and eat healthy. I tried all the popular diets, I started and stopped exercising, same old story over and over. I hated to see the photos, knowing that it really wasn’t the camera making me look bigger than I really was The turning point came for me this year. Several things came into play. I’m turning 60 next year, I was gaining about a pound a year and I really want to live many more years. Two significant things happened to help me get on track for a more healthy lifestyle. The first positive change for me this year is I’m able to work from home three days a week, giving me six hours back in my life every week. I’ve decided to use those hours wisely. The second impact was that Starr and Brian bought a Fit Bit and I joined the bracelet movement. I try not to obsess with the Fit Bit but it helps me to have a realistic view of how much I’m moving every day, and how many calories I’ve used or not used up! I’m making healthier food choices and slowly but surely losing the weight. I’m back to my weight of sixteen yeas ago, before Joy was born, and I have no intention of gaining back any of those 13 pounds! I’m still old and will never be the slim girl of my teens and twenties but according to some of those bodies I saw at the beach last week, I’m ok for my age!
