Day 23: Not Now

Today’s Reading:
Day 23 / Not Now (pages 129-133)

My ah-ha from today’s reading:

“Sometimes we have to be willing to give something up to God in order to get it back from God.”

I am just like Mark Batterson – I don’t like waiting. At all.

But, it seems like over and over in my life God has built in the theme of waiting to teach me valuable lessons in trusting Him.

Earlier today I was reading a story about the young rich ruler in the Bible. Jesus asked him to give everything up and follow Him. But, he just couldn’t do it.

The young ruler wasn’t doing anything wrong – in fact, he was following the commandments. He just loved his stuff – too much to give it all up. And Jesus knew that.

Now think of those disciples that dropped everything to follow Jesus. Think about how their lives were changed. Think about how the Gospel was carried through them – ultimately to me and you!!

Am I willing to give up my stuff for an adventure with God?

Today’s devotional reiterated this point for me. God is working on me and the theme of less.

Lord, I need help in letting go of things. I want to change this world with my life. Oh, let me see the opportunities that are ahead in You and don’t let me get boggled down here.

  1. I’m guilty in my impatience in trying to do God’s job for Him. I have trouble trying to determine if I’m being impatient or not taking action. ??????
