Day 16: Lord, Surprise Me

Today’s Reading:
Day 16 / Lord, Surprise Me (pages 94-98)

My ah-ha from today’s reading:

“…I have come to expect the unexpected because God is predictably unpredictable. The only thing I can predict with absolute certainty is this: the more you pray, the more you will experience holy surprises.”

I totally get this point now more than ever. And I’m seeing it come true in my own life.

Holy surprises.

It’s like God shows up all throughout my day and I’m constantly WOW’d at how He’s listened to my prayers and dreams lately.

He shows up in the midst of things that no one else knows about.

For example: I’m a young writer (as in experience of writing) and I haven’t gotten use to putting your heart out there and then laying it on the chopping block for opinions, rejection, etc.

I don’t know that those things will ever get easier. It’s tough and risky. But I’ve been leaving those fears and doubts and struggles at God’s feet in prayer during this 40 day challenge. I’ve tried carrying the weight and it’s too heavy. It’s time for God to do the heavy lifting.

There have been moments over the past couple of days where I questioned what I was doing or the topic I was writing on. At the exact moment, a friend would send encouragement. Holy surprises!

Lord, surprise me!! I want to constantly notice your hand at work in my life.

How about you? Has He surprised you lately? I’d love to hear about what God is doing in your life during this challenge.

  1. If we are truthful with ourselves, we should be surprised more often because we are so undeserving of our blessings. We are often ungrateful and unappreciative of what God has done for us. We often feel that we have earned the blessings, things and events in our lives and we take so much for granted. God help me to be surprised at His mercy and goodness to me, I don’t deserve all the good in my life!
