Chapter 29: Memorizing Jesus
(pg 197)

Quote of the Day:

“Stalkers are ordinary people who study from afar the people they’re too afraid to really know. Jesus said that unless you know Him like a child you’ll never really know Him at all. Kids don’t care about facts, and they certainly don’t study each other. They’re just with each other; they do stuff together. That’s what Jesus had in mind.” – Love Does by Bob Goff, pg 202

Scripture Reference:

Matthew 18:3
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Putting Love into Action:

Think about one way you can move from learning and memorizing scripture – to actually doing and living it out in your life. If you’re having trouble figuring out what that might be, start by reading Matthew 25 in your Bible. Jesus teaches exactly what we are supposed to be doing.

When I read this chapter I think about how God wants us to move from a spectator in life to a participator. He doesn’t want us to have a love that just watches others, but a love that does. Can you think of anyone in your life that is a great example of being a participator? Tell us about them!

Post your comments below for today’s question/discussion. I can’t wait to hear your answers!

  1. When I’m leading worship at our church it is easy sometimes to see those that come to church just to be spectators and those that come to participate. One couple in our church ALWAYS captures my attention during worship. They are there because they NEED the presence of God and they always participate. Several years ago they suffered tragedy in their lives that most of us can’t imagine – they lost their grandson (that they were raising) in a horrible accident. This was only years after losing their son. I can see in their eyes and tears that their worship comes from a deep place of needing God every single moment. Not only do they participate in worship, they are constantly coming up to me after service to tell me how much they needed to hear a song or to just hug my neck and tell me that they love me. This couple inspires me in so many ways. They have a love that does when it comes to worship. They don’t come to church to memorize Jesus, they come to be with Jesus.

  2. I love that couple. They inspire me to need Jesus in a new way and love my family at and in every moment. Also, to love my church family and be real with them.
I look at the the people at the homeless shelter and realize I am there for a reason. For years I said I should do it, and God opened a door. The people at this shelter have shown me that a little love goes a long way. Most of them do not know where their next meal will come from and if we were not there to serve they may not have a meal or someone to pray with. I do not want to be a spectator-I want to participate! Lord, help me thru the day to show your love and see the people I need to love today.

  3. I think about the Sunday school and children’s church workers in our church. Many have served for a very long time. They keep doing it, making a difference in lives of children and adults alike. They are participating in a real way.
