Chapter 27: The Story
(pg 183)

Quote of the Day:

“I always learn a lot from Adam. I want a boat or a motorcycle or a hot air balloon named The Story too. I think we should all get back to building that rocket ship we dreamed of when we thought about what our life would be about. I want to be doing things today, not just flipping through crinkled and yellowed mental pictures of what happened a long time ago. I need my own vehicle to get there, though; we all do. That vehicle will look a little different for everyone. One boat size, one story size, doesn’t fit all. We each need to get into something of our own each day, something that will take us to a new place, a place that needs us. Perhaps I’ll name my boat Whimsy and try to untie it from the dock in my mind at least once a day and take it for a lap. Maybe you will too.” – Love Does by Bob Goff, pgs. 188

Scripture Reference:

Romans 12: 6-8
6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Putting Love into Action:

Get back to building that rocket ship you dreamed of when you thought about what your life would be about. Not sure what that is? Ask God – talk to Him about it. Spend some time searching in Him and ask Him to reveal to you what He wants you to get to doing.

Question/Discussion:

Time to hear some dreams! What dream(s) have you had over your life that God might be bringing back to your mind? What does that look like for you? What vehicle do you need? What would you name your “boat”?

Post your comments below for today’s question/discussion. I can’t wait to hear your answers!

  1. Oh goodness, where do I start? I’ve dreamed of owning a flower shop. I’ve dreamed of owning my own business doing creative artsy type stuff. I’ve dreamed of writing. I’ve dreamed of speaking. Obviously, I have no trouble in the dreaming department. Have I given attention to these things? Writing – yes. That is the one thing I’ve worked on developing and I’ve said YES to God on. It’s still a cloudy dream, though. The other dreams are far off in the distance for me. My vehicle would most likely be my keyboard or my paintbrush. I would give a name of “Difference Maker” because I’m learning more than anything I want each day of my life to make a difference somehow. I don’t want to waste a day. I don’t want to waste a moment. I don’t want to waste an opportunity. I love the part that talks about how there is no one size boat and no one size story. We all have something unique for US that God created in US. And the way that we each get there will look different too. I’m becoming more and more okay with that. I don’t have to keep up with the rules of writing or blogging. And random thought: tonight as we left dinner there was an old guy sitting in a red jeep with the top off listening to Elvis in the parking lot. I laughed as I walked by and thought, “That totally makes me think of Bob!”

  2. WOW…I’ve missed you guys! I got behind in the last couple weeks of school and never could catch up, SO today I just skipped over to at last finish out the book with you and will then go back and pick up where I skipped over.

I LOVE the stories Bob tells..they just seem to flow with no effort. More importantly, I love how he weaves the story of Jesus into all of his tales…makes me think…we should always weave Jesus into everything we say and do.

Do I have dreams…(as I’m knocking on the door marked “60”)…we all have dreams…what coulda, woulda, shoulda been?? Seriously I have few regrets, but have decided to pursue as many “adventures” as He has left for me to do.

This time last year if you’d have told me I would be traveling to the Middle East to do missions work, I would have laughed and said you’re crazy, but sometimes God allows the crazy to happen….and it was amazing. I would do it again in a heartbeat. The title of my boat would be ” It’s never too late”, for His timing is always right.

Looking forward to more adventures in the coming months as I welcome my first grandchild. She’s waiting on us in China. I can’t wait to be GramGram to little Claire. God is good!!

    1. Hi Aunt Deb!! So good to see you back – you were missed! No worries on being behind, read as you are able 🙂 I absolutely LOVE the name of your boat and I love seeing all that God is doing in your life! We can’t wait to bring home Care Bear and to see all that God has for your family in her! Love you!
