Chapter 24: Lose the Cape
(pg 159)

Quote of the Day:

“You want a mission statement to go along with being secretly incredible? Okay, here it is: “Be Awesome.” That’s it. If you want to follow Jesus’ example of how He did things, that’s probably all we’d write down instead of our otherwise heady doctrinal statements. But there’s more. I don’t think Jesus wants us to make a fashion statement or be edgy or promote ourselves on the backs of clothing and bracelets all the time either. I think instead, Jesus wants us to write “Be Awesome” on an undershirt where it won’t be seen, not on the back of a hoodie.” – Love Does by Bob Goff, pg 161

Scripture Reference:

Matthew 6:2-4
2 “So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

Putting Love into Action:

Be Awesome.

Who in your life has been awesome and done a good job of wearing it as an undershirt instead of a cape? Who has been secretly incredible that God has used in a big way?

  1. Honestly, the first person that comes to my mind as being secretly incredible in my life is my mom. Most people don’t know exactly how strong she is and the strength she has been over the years to our family. She is humble, she just does love and doesn’t create a fanfare. She’s one of the most giving people I know and I’m so proud that she’s still teaching me by the example she lives each day. Thanks for all that you do, mom! I love you and God has used you in BIG WAYS over the years!

  2. I love you Starr! You are my inspiration! I keep learning everyday and I keep trying to find more creative ways to go about God’s business without all the fanfare. The women that I admire are the ones who keep working for God, they keep coming to church, interceding for their unsaved husbands and children. My heart goes out to them.
