Chapter 11: There’s More Room
(pg 76)

Quote of the Day:

“There is only one invitation it would kill me to refuse, yet I’m tempted to turn it down all the time. I get the invitation every morning when I wake up to actually live a life of complete engagement, a life of whimsey, a life where love does. It doesn’t come in an envelope. It’s ushered in by a sunrise, the sound of a bird, or the smell of coffee drifting lazily from the kitchen. It’s the invitation to actually live, to fully participate in this amazing life for one more day. Nobody turns down an invitation to the White House, but I’ve seen plenty of people turn down an invitation to fully live.” – Love Does by Bob Goff, pg 80

Scripture Reference:

Jesus invites us to open the door, enter through Him and be saved! The enemy is constantly seeking to steal, kill and destroy each of us – he wants to take our invitation to live the life Jesus offered. But Jesus tells us that we can have LIFE – every single day!

John 10:9-10 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

Putting Love into Action:

Wake up and begin each day this week by accepting the invitation to fully live. That’s it. Just show up and see what happens. Tell God each morning – here I am! Let’s do this!

Question/Discussion:

Bob talks about how living life to the fullest is contagious – others watch and start seeing life as something more amazing. Have you ever met anyone like this? Did they catch your attention and make you want to really LIVE? Tell us about them!

Post your comments below for today’s question/discussion. I can’t wait to hear your answers!

  1. I have this friend, Gary. He’s just a normal kind of guy that drank 24 beers a day until Jesus got a hold of him. His story is pretty incredible. He wakes up each day and decides to live. He was once fired from a radio show and took it as a sign that God was ready for him and his wife to relocate to NC. That brought him to Christian radio where he had his new on air home for over 10 years. The week that they announced our local radio station was closing, Gary said, “Well, I guess it took God shutting down the station to tell me it’s time to move on to my next assignment!” Gary encourages me to live life to the fullest. He’s a true story of how God can change a life. He doesn’t take one day for granted, and he’s always looking for an opportunity to show love. I want to be like that.

  2. My friend showed up out of the blue in my church. She is from Columbia (south America) and her fire is like none I have ever seen. She has survived human trafficking and a very bad relationship and shows up full of life and freedom and hope!!! She can penetrate your eyes and see down in your soul. She allows the Holy Spirit to use her to speak life into everyone she encounters. She is available and he uses that availability in amazing ways. She wakes up each day and says here I am Lord, where do you want me to go. I have learned so much from her. Especially to keep my eyes open and to look into the eyes of others and take time to offer prayer. Her love is so contagious!!

    1. It’s so funny that some of the most broken people end up being the ones that fully live! So many times we avoid difficulties and challenges in life, but wow – look what God can do to turn these people on fire for Him and make a difference in the lives of others!!

  3. I can think of a few people that when I first met them seemed in fire for God. And they made me want to be that way too. That passion and drive and love for all.

Then as I got to know them they were not like that all the time. And you wonder was it an act?

But they are just human (just us). And I realize it’s ok to make mistakes. It’s ok to be human.

and though I have seen the humanity of their lives I know the love and passion from Him is real. And I yearn to be more like that.

(This is not to say that everyone I’ve seen with this drive for life in God acts this way! I am sure there are lots that are in fire 24/7.)

    1. It’s so easy to lose that fire. Life and circumstances get in the way and we lose sight of what once made us so very over the top excited to serve and love. God, help us all – take us back – rekindle the fire within me, Lord – once again!!

  4. I guess I have a pretty boring life, I couldn’t think of anything exciting to tell last night! I think my example is going to be a group of ladies. I have been going to a scrapbook weekend for about 11 years now. We started out meeting once a year in a little farmhouse in Tennessee. We outgrew that little house several years ago, we now rent a seven bedroom cabin in pigeon forge. What I love about this group of ladies is that we are all Christians. We scrap, we laugh, we have our own cook so we eat like nobody’s business, and we have good clean fun. We started our own facebook group so we now share prayer requests, uplifting each other and sharing laughs. They are a good group of unselfish, giving people. I love being part of that family of silly women. God has given me the opportunity to have the support of some lifelong friends.

    1. First of all, you do not have a boring life – you have MEEEE! hahaha! Second, that group of ladies is an excellent example of people that inspire and make you want to live life more fully. Just think about how we feel when we leave that cabin every Spring? We’re refreshed, renewed, belly’s full and we’ve usually laughed until we’ve cried. I’m thankful for these relationships and for the ability to keep in touch throughout the year. God definitely brought together our little cabin group for a reason!! Thanks, Aunt Debra for getting us all together and planning every year!!

  5. Well, I did think about saying that you are the one who brings a lot of excitement in my life! I’m grateful for our special relationship and all the little things we get to share!
