Day 27: Last but not Least

Friday, Nov 21 – Daily Interrupted Challenge:
Give up something for 24 hours.
It doesn’t matter what. Coffee. Soft drinks. Food. Chewing gum. Facebook. Anything. Pick something – start a clock (even if it begins at 9pm on Friday night or if you’re reading this on Sunday) and go without for 24 hours. Every time that you crave or want that item – pray about how God can use you and change your life. PS – don’t pick to give up something you would never miss – make it something that will be tough for you to go without. Make it a sacrifice.

Day 27: Last but not Least

This paragraph stuck out to me most from today’s reading:

Many will stand before Jesus one day, clutching good works in their hands, but they will leave His presence because they never loved Him…God is supremely concerned with our motives, and our works count only when they match our intentions. There is no back door into salvation, rerouted around the sacrifice of Christ. Otherwise, the whole earth could gain heaven by good works, and His day on the cross would be pointless. (Interrupted pg 108)

True stuff, friends. We can work hard serving others, but our works will never replace our relationship with Jesus Christ. I’m so glad she made this point so very clear. We can’t get caught up in thinking that it’s all about how much we did – if we don’t KNOW Him.

Yes, Jesus is there – all around us everyday.

This song has been on my mind today:

Give me Your eyes for just one second
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me Your love for humanity
Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see

– Brandon Heath, Give Me Your Eyes

Lord, give us Your eyes so we can see. Oh, how we need YOU. Do a fresh work in each of us. Teach us a new way of living. Help us to find our purpose completely in You. Amen!

What are you seeing with His eyes in a fresh light?

  1. For today’s reading I see more and more of Jesus compassion. It reminded me of a scriture in the word if you love only the
Loveable what good is it. God really wants us to reach out to the unloveable. His ways are higher than ours…. Help us to see!

  2. Joanie I agree. .reaching out to people who have hurt others because they have been hurt. That is the pattern. …I am learning I am God’s tool, I don’t always have to know why I am doing what I am doing-i am doing it cause God said to. Reaching out and loving on someone because he said to, because they are people, because they need Jesus too.

  3. Since we began our 40 prayer journey, and I read the book 7, and now I’m reading Interrupted, I find myself seeing so many things in God’s Word that take on a different meaning – even though I have read the same passages so many times before. This morning I read that Jesus said “by myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.” Wow! If Jesus himself worked to please His Father, then I must follow His lead to work to please both Jesus our Savior and the Father above. I never remember reading that Jesus worked to PLEASE his Father. This study keeps telling us that it isn’t all about pleasing ourselves, hello!

    1. This is so great! I love seeing how God is changing our perspectives, making words jump out at us, putting people in our paths that need a friend, showing us how to be more like Jesus! We have so much to learn and He is faithful to show us the way. Thank you for sharing!
