Are you going to pray through until you have a break through, or are you going to give up and break apart?
Remember this line from the intro of Draw the Circle?
“Don’t be surprised if you experience spiritual opposition along the way. But if you pray through, God will break through in new ways. It’s as inevitable as the tide coming in.” (pg. 7 – Draw the Circle)
We know that the devil is a great enemy and he is prowling around:
1 Peter 5:8: Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
The Bible has warned us and given us instructions to stay alert. When the opposition comes (and it WILL come, have no doubt), are we prepared to stay alert? Or will we start singing an old country song: my dog died, my truck broke down, my girlfriend left me, I’m just gonna give up now.
In all seriousness, we have a choice. The battle is real. We have to put our armor on everyday. We have to get out of that pit.
Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
There. Did you catch that? Be alert always and keep on praying – FOR ALL THE LORD’S PEOPLE. That means don’t just pray for yourself, pray for us all. Lift each other up.
And stand. Stand firm.
Extinguish the flaming arrows.
The struggle is real. Powers of this dark world and spiritual forces of evil. Schemes.
Today: I choose to not let the enemy have a stronghold in my circumstances and my faith. Today, I let out a battle cry and I speak life, speak words of hope, speak words of encouragement – into your life and mine.
The battle is God’s – and we are on His side. And we win!
